Important Differences between Essential Oils and Fragrance Oils
Share
Hey there friends,
I have been working really hard on getting this website up and it has been a long process. But along with the steps of creating a website, I wanted to be able to inform you of some very important information pertaining to candles, the products used to create candles and so much more. This blog is covering the differences of essential oils and fragrance oils and why it is so IMPORTANT to understand the differences and how it could affect everyone (even fur babies).
To start, a candle that has a scent used an oil, which one, it's hard to say. There are essentially 3 different types of oils available for use with candles and other products. There are essential oils, natural identical fragrance oils, and then synthetic (made in a lab) oil.
Essential oils are derived from the specific plant, such as lemon or eucalyptus oil, it is a long and tedious process which leads to the price of essential oils to be rather high. On top of high cost, these oils are not meant to be blended and heated in the form of candles. The oil properties on a good portion of essential oils actually modify and become noxious, which can easily make you or your family sick. I have read stories of pets becoming deathly ill due to someone burning an essential oil based candle. It is such a scary thought and if you know me, I couldn't do that to my furbabies!
Natural identical compounds are replications of essentials oils by using the same molecules found in nature but are man made, allowing for the cost to be lower and have a faster turnaround time.
Synthetic oils are completely man made using similar molecules to create and mimic nature's scents. These are typically used for producing scents that are no longer allowed to be extracted from nature, such as musk. Musk was originally extracted from the reproductive organs of musk deer, whales and beavers. (Yuck!)
What I am trying to get at is, I want you to be educated about the oils available for candle use, what I use and why. The oils I use are premium fragrance oils that contain some essential oils (that are specifically safe for high heat burning and do not cause any unforeseen issues for your family and pets) and natural identical oils. These are free of phthalates, parabens and carcinogens (cancer causing molecules).
If you would like the IFRA standards for the fragrance oils used on the candles you have purchased, please send me an email and I will gladly share the information.
